So, you think you've got me pegged?

Based on everything written here you think it would be safe to assume that I am your run of the mill, indie loving, dress and cardi wearing, tea drinking, whimiscal girly singer however you would only be partly correct. Admittedly, Eurythmics were my first musical love. I was obsessed by them and by Annie Lennox when I was about 11. I remember buying Eurythmics Greatest Hits on cassette from John Menzies, it was the first album I ever bought (I still have it!). My tastes have expanded over the years from 80s legends at 11, to chart bothering indie rock at 13, through to 'proper alternative' music from about 15 onwards. Like most teenagers I would listen to Lamacq and then Peel and that was, for a long time, my only source of new music. It's probably fairly obvious that Belle & Sebastian, The Smiths, Mogwai, Arab Strap, Idlewild, Pavement, The Delgados, PJ Harvey among many others were on heavy rotation on my CD player and then it happened.............I w...

Phil Collins: The World Won’t Listen

No, I have not lost my mind. I am not referring to the man who brought us Genesis (why oh why?!), who has sold upwards of 100 million records and reminds me of a certain scary drumming gorilla but in fact the artist Phil Collins. His first solo exhibition in Scotland is currently at The Tramway in Glasgow. The World Won't Listen was filmed in Colombia, Turkey and Indonesia and features fans of The Smiths preforming karaoke versions of tracks from the 1987 album of the same name. It is altogether beautiful, bizzare, funny, beguiling and sincere and I highly recommend seeing this exhibition while you can. I won't go into to any more detail as the whole experience should be enjoyed without knowing exactly what you are going to see but just remember to look out for the striptease! Admission is free and the exhibition runs until Sunday 31st May. P.S. Please don't waste your time going next door to the Bruce Nauman exhibition as it is simply dull.

How do you tell people that the most loved 'club' night in Glasgow is ending? How do you tell people that the place they feel most at home with the music they love, the people and dancing is to be no more? Well, you start with the most heartfelt letter I have read in a very long time. Here it is in full: Hi It is Monday evening as I write, I'm typing this in my old bedroom in Kilwinning . I came down here to write because I thought I would find it easier. I got the train at 6; I read the Evening Times, nothing doing, I walked from the station, through the town... the first day of the school holidays today, wee guys hiding under the bridges at the river, voices rattling like carrier bags, someone calling me "mister", up the long road to Corsehill and it starts to rain only it's warm out and it smells like summer, and the kids up in Corsehill are still in their shorts and t-shirts. You can see the horizon when you get to the top of the hill and the sky stretch...
